Labour Market Impact Assessment-LMIA

Canada is called the land of dreams and opportunities. Hundreds of immigrants visit Canada to work, live and settle here. Foreign nationals looking for jobs in Canada should first obtain a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA Application) before applying for work perform from Immigration, Citizenship and Refugees Canada (IRCC).

Employers can also apply for an LMIA through LMIA application to either have a foreign national to get a new work permit, help maintain an employee’s authorization to work or support an employee in permanent residence application.

LMIA is designed to help employers hire foreign nationals, but for this they have to demonstrate that they are not able to find a Canadian suitable for the job.

The success of LMIA Application depends on the particular program under which it is submitted. There are various streams involved such as high-wage, low-wage positions, caregivers, agricultural workers, academics, and permanent resident applicants. At CANFED, we have a team of expert immigration professionals who can assist you in filing LMIA applications in compliance with all the documentary requirements.

Labour Market Impact Assessment – Employers

Employers need to advertise for the position that is vacant on Job Bank and in media suitable for the particular stream and position.

Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) would require an employer to conduct alternative advertisement and union consultation. It is important for the employer to choose the right National Occupation Classification (NOC) for the position. The employer should advertise the position for at least a month continuously before submitting the LMIA. ESDC would require the proofs of advertisements, recruitment efforts, forms etc. Rest of the requirements depend on the LMIA program.

Labour Market Impact Assessment – Timelines

LMIA process usually takes 5-8 weeks, but there is a 10-day service for positions in the highest wage bracket, for high-demand positions, and for LMIAs submitted in support of a permanent residence application.

It is not necessary for all the employees to obtain LMIA before applying for a work permit in Canada there are few exception also.

The employer can submit an offer of employment in support of closed work permit application, or hire the workers by taking services of CANFED Visa and Immigration Services Inc.
