Federal Skills trades people in the trade like Industry, construction, electrical and equipment, technical occupations in natural resources and agriculture production or in processing and manufacturing and the Cooks, Chefs, Butchers and Bakers are qualified under this stream for Permanent Residency through Express Entry system. To qualify, applicants must have at least 2 years work experience in a skilled trade in the last five years and meet quite a minimum language requirements (CLB 5) as compare to Federal Skill Worker class. The candidate must have an offer of full-time job for at least 1 year based on positive Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) or a certificate of qualification issued by a Canadian province in that particular skill trade and the intent to settle only outside Quebec.
Qualifying for the Federal Skill Trade is only the first step in immigrating to Canada. After qualifying the applicant must create a candidate profile in Express Entry and should wait till an Invitation to Apply for Permanent Residence is received and then finally submitting their application for Permanent Residency.
The program uses a point system to assess candidates but minimum cut-off is far less than the points required under Federal Skill Worker or Canadian Experience Class. Draw for this stream happens normally once or twice a year and very few applicants are invited under this stream.
